Celso Alamiro Guajardo Bettancourt died that day at 1:15, at the Posta Central, due to septic shock, according to his Death Certificate. He was admitted to that medical center on January 4 of that year, transferred from the Hospital de San Antonio, with a post-operative diagnosis of generalized seropurulent peritonitis due to acute pancreatitis, as indicated in the respective medical record.

According to the statement provided by his spouse, Celso Guajardo, an active militant of the Partido Socialista, lived in the seaside town of El Quisco with his family. In November 1973, his home was raided by Carabineros officers and Ejército troops belonging to the Tejas Verdes Regiment, one of whom struck him repeatedly, especially in the abdomen, with the butt of his weapon until he lost consciousness.

Afterward, they abandoned him at the same location.

In the following days, and as a consequence of the blows received, Celso Guajardo had to be hospitalized at the Hospital de San Antonio and underwent surgery. On January 4, he was transferred to the Posta Central in Santiago, where he passed away days later.

Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation carried out by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Celso Alamiro Guajardo Bettancourt a victim of human rights violations by State agents, who made irrational use of force.
