Case summary
Calixto Peralta Gajardo, 30 years old, an INACAP worker and former union leader of the CUT, was detained in Santiago by armed civilians on January 29, 1974. Hours later, his body was found with two gunshot wounds, in what was a political execution by State agents and a grave violation of his human rights.

On January 29, 1974, Calixto Juan de Dios PERALTA GAJARDO, 30 years old, an INACAP worker and former leader of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) in Valdivia, passed away. He was married and the father of a newborn daughter.
Calixto Peralta was detained at his mother's house in the La Granja commune, Santiago, by heavily armed civilians who broke into the home and took the victim away without presenting an arrest warrant. A few hours later, his body was admitted to the Instituto Médico Legal with two bullet wounds. His remains were not returned to his family.
The commission has reached the conviction that Calixto Juan Peralta died as a result of two gunshot wounds received while in the custody of agents of a security agency, in violation of his human rights.
