On January 20, 1988, Berta Rosa PARDO MUÑOZ, 65 years old, a pensioner of the Armada, died as a result of the detonation of an explosive device in Valparaíso.

Information in the possession of this Commission indicates that on the afternoon of that day, in the waiting room of the Medical Center of the Caja de Previsión de la Defensa Nacional (Capredena), the victim was waiting along with other people to receive medical attention.

At that moment, an explosive device, which unknown extremists had left under a seat, detonated, causing her death instantly. The cause of death was abdominal and lower extremity trauma, as indicated by the death certificate.

The Commission reached the conviction that Berta Pardo was a victim of a violation of her human rights in a terrorist act, carried out by private individuals acting for political motives.
