At the end of April 1974, the teacher Bartolomé Ambrosio SALAZAR VELIZ was killed. He was a member of the Socialist Party and, according to some records, also of the MIR. He was arrested in Chillán on April 17, 1974, a city to which he had moved shortly before in order to hide from security personnel who were pursuing him.
That day, his spouse was supposed to meet him on one side of the plaza. Upon his delay, she went to their shared residence, where unidentified individuals arrested her and transferred her to a military facility, presumably the Chillán Regiment, before she was subsequently released.
According to investigations conducted by this Commission, the victim was also held at the Chillán Regiment.
The body of Bartolomé Ambrosio Salazar was found near Quinchamalí on the banks of a river on the 27th of the same month. He was buried as a John Doe (NN) on May 2. The cause of death was shock, acute anemia, and multiple ballistic perforations.
In light of the aforementioned records, the Commission has reached the conviction that Bartolomé Ambrosio Salazar was executed by State agents in violation of his human rights.
