According to statements made by family members, on September 13, 1973, Alfonso Vega was with his family at his home located in the vicinity of an industrial plant, on Calle Bernardo Morales in the Población Germán Riesco, in the commune of San Joaquín.
One of his brothers noted that heavy gunfire could be heard near the industrial plant. Under these circumstances, a bullet entered the home and struck the minor, who died at the scene. His father went out to request help from the military, but they forced him to return to his home. Subsequently, they raided the house and removed the projectile that had remained embedded in one of the walls.
