Alejandra del Carmen Berríos Valencia died that day at 12:00 hours, at the Hospital Roberto del Río, due to thoracic trauma caused by a bullet, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to eyewitness accounts, at approximately 8:00 hours that day, Carabineros officers, who were pursuing alleged criminals, entered the courtyard of Alejandra Berríos's parents' home, located in the Chacabuco neighborhood in the commune of Conchalí, while firing their weapons.
Several projectiles pierced the wooden walls of the home, one of which struck the young girl as she slept next to her mother, causing her death.
The Superior Council, considering that the officers involved used their firearms without regard for their power and without anticipating the consequences that the gunfire could cause, reached the conviction that Alejandra del Carmen Berríos Valencia was a victim of human rights violations by State agents who made irrational use of force.
