On April 19, 1985, Alberto Arturo NEUMANN ADRIAZOLA, 43 years old, a 1st Corporal of the Carabineros assigned to the 2nd Police Station of Temuco, was killed.
In the early hours of the indicated day, while he was heading toward the holding cells, he was suddenly attacked with a firearm by a detainee, a militant of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez, causing him very serious injuries, from which he died moments later. Subsequently, the perpetrator of the shots was fatally wounded by another officer who repelled the attack.
The death certificate states that the cause of death was "high cervical anatomical medullary section, transfixing cervicofacial gunshot wound with perforation of the spinal canal."
The evidence provided allows for the affirmation that the officer was performing service duties in an institutional facility; that the shots were fired by surprise, without the victim being able to defend himself; and that the perpetrator was a militant of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez.
In accordance with this evidence, the Commission formed the conviction that 1st Corporal of the Carabineros Alberto Neuman was a victim of human rights violations, as he died as a result of an attack on his life carried out by an individual under political pretexts.
