Abraham José Romero Jeldres died at 13:00 hours that day, on a public thoroughfare, due to a gunshot wound to the cranium, as stated in his Medical Death Certificate. He remained in the status of forcibly disappeared until 1975, when his relatives verified that he had been interred as an "unidentified person" in Patio Nº 29 of the General Cemetery of Santiago.
According to statements from his relatives, days after the military coup, Abraham Romero was detained by military personnel who raided his home in the La Pincoya neighborhood and took him to an unknown destination. His spouse searched for him in the various detention centers of the time, as well as in first-aid stations, hospitals, and morgues, without success.
In 1975, his spouse was informed that he was deceased and buried in Patio Nº 29 of the General Cemetery. She went to that location, where she confirmed that his death was registered as that of "an unidentified person." That same year, she carried out the administrative procedures to rectify the death registration to his name, but she was unable to recover his remains, which had been interred in the aforementioned cemetery.
Considering the evidence gathered in the Corporation's investigation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that Abraham José Romero Jeldres was executed by State agents outside of any legal process while he was being held in detention. For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.*
────────────────────────* Subsequent to the qualification of this case, on March 27, 1993, the Twentieth Criminal Court of Santiago issued a resolution in the investigation being conducted regarding illegal interments in Patio Nº 29 of the General Cemetery, ordering that his remains be turned over to his relatives.
